3 Reasons Hand-Eye Coordination is Essential for Children with Special Medical Needs

Providing a Helping Hand for Special Needs Children and Families.

Are you curious about how hand-eye coordination is essential for children with special medical needs? We explain three benefits of the impact hand-eye coordination has on children.

What is hand-eye coordination?

Hand-eye coordination refers to the ability of our hands and eyes to work simultaneously or in coordination. It involves our eyes taking in visual information, and the brain responding by sending signals to the arms and hands to react.

Why would a child need hand-eye coordination?

Hand eye coordination is a crucial skill for children to develop as it helps them with everyday tasks. Incorporating interactive games and activities into their daily routine can help in the development of hand-eye coordination skills in an enjoyable way.

Benefits of hand-eye coordination for children with special medical needs include:

1. Improved communication skills

If a child has good hand-eye coordination skills, they can better interact with others. A study by scientists at Indiana University showed that when kids and parents interacted with their hands and eyes on an object, they were able to communicate and work together.

2. Improved development

The more a child develops their hand-eye coordination skill the more they are able to improve in other skills such as writing, communicating, playing with toys, etc. Having good hand-eye coordination also helps in developing fine and gross motor skills.

3. Reduced risk of injuries

A benefit of good hand-eye coordination is it may reduce the risk of falls and injuries. This is because it can make the child quicker to react to situations such as catching themselves when they trip.

Hand-eye coordination at Tender Care PPEC

At Tender Care, we encourage the children to play in therapy. Playing with a ball or toy makes therapy more fun for the child and helps them learn faster. We play games with balls to help them improve their hand-eye coordination skill.

Why should my child go to Tender Care PPEC?

Tender Care PPEC provides care for medically complex and fragile children from birth to 21 years of age in a daycare-like environment staffed with nurses, CNAs, and therapists. We are the first independently owned PPEC in the State of Florida with our initial center opening in 1988. This means we have an abundance of experience and knowledge in providing loving care to this special pediatric population. We have 6 Tender Care PPEC centers throughout Florida, with our newest facility located in Lake Park.

Lake Park Location

Our goal is to enhance the development of each child through collaborative relationships between families, physicians, nurses, and therapists. This holistic approach to care is carried out in an environment that allows the child to engage in social interactions with their peers. This results in thriving children, well-positioned to achieve their greatest potential. We also offer transportation at no cost and provide nutritious meals throughout the day.

What sets us apart is that we care for and treat every child like family. We have passion in our hearts for our children and a desire to see them succeed.
