Case Study: A Lifeline for a Single Mother and Her Son
Client: Vanessa, Single Mother
Child’s Condition: Special needs, including incontinence
Challenge: Managing full-time caregiving with no external support
Solution: Specialized pediatric care at Tender Care PPEC
When Vanessa first came to Tender Care PPEC, she was overwhelmed by the 24/7 caregiving demands of raising her nonverbal son. As a single mother with no family support, her life had become a cycle of constant care, cleaning, and exhaustion. The joy and happiness she once felt were replaced by fatigue and isolation. Her struggles had led her to quit her job and wonder if there was any way out of the never-ending routine.
“I felt like I never smiled anymore,” Vanessa recalls. “I was so young, yet caregiving and cleaning were my whole life. How could this be?”
Vanessa faced additional challenges. Her son’s special needs meant that traditional schools and group homes were not viable options. She felt defeated and alone, with no real path forward. Then, through a connection on Facebook, she found Thomas and Melissa LoBianco at Tender Care PPEC, and something clicked. She knew this was the support she had been desperately searching for.
The process to get her son enrolled in Tender Care PPEC was not easy, with multiple insurance changes, doctor referrals, and paperwork. However, with the help of Dianne, who guided Vanessa through every step, the process became much more manageable. Vanessa is incredibly grateful for Dianne’s unwavering support during this time.
Since her son joined Tender Care PPEC, Vanessa has seen a complete transformation. “I know he has a much fuller life now,” she says. The personalized care and attention at Tender Care PPEC have helped her son reach his potential beyond being confined to home, and it has allowed Vanessa to find a balance again in her life.
“I can’t do this alone, none of us can,” Vanessa shares. “Respite care isn’t optional, and it took me a long time to accept that, but I am so glad to have a community of leaders I can trust with my sweet baby.”
Today, thanks to Tender Care PPEC, Vanessa is regaining her joy and energy, knowing her son is in good hands. She is deeply grateful for the support and care that have become a lifeline for her family.

Tender Care provides care for medically complex and fragile children from birth to 21 years of age in a daycare-like environment staffed with nurses, CNAs, and therapists. We are the first independently owned PPEC in the State of Florida with our initial center opening in 1988. This means we have an abundance of experience and knowledge in providing loving care to this special pediatric population. We have 6 Tender Care PPEC centers throughout Florida, with our newest facility located in Lake Park.
Our goal is to enhance the development of each child through collaborative relationships between families, physicians, nurses, and therapists. This holistic approach to care is carried out in an environment that allows the child to engage in social interactions with their peers. This results in thriving children, well-positioned to achieve their greatest potential. We also offer transportation at no cost and provide nutritious meals throughout the day.
What sets us apart is that we care for and treat every child like family. We have passion in our hearts for our children and a desire to see them succeed.
We are so excited to have a table at this fair and can’t wait to meet all the families that attend.
